
Mr. Joe Legare
Program Manager
Joe’s 32 years of experience includes leading large DOE programs, including daily operations of Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract and 650 staff, managing Transuranic waste for disposal at WIPP, working under a regulatory environment similar to WIPP’s (New Mexico Environment Department regulators, EPA region 6) and interactions with NM stakeholders. Joe provides leadership with a sense of urgency – TRU waste shipments went from zero in FY18 to completing 29 shipments in FY21.

Mr. Mark Krauss
WIPP Operations Manager
Mark has 34 years of relevant experience operating nuclear facilities for DOE and Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) projects. He is currently the Senior Director at NNSS, leading a 200-person team. Mark leads the U1a Complex Enhancements Project (UCEP), an underground facility expansion, providing base infrastructure to accommodate installation of nuclear material subcritical experimentation equipment – a direct WIPP analog. He has been directly responsible for Transuranic waste management activities for seven years at NNSS. He has also assisted with WIPP restart supporting management self-assessment, contractor and DOE operational readiness reviews (ORR).

Mr. George Sturgis
Capital Asset Projects Manager
George Sturgis is a seasoned executive manager and project management leader with over forty years of experience in engineering, construction, construction management, evaluation, design, and overall project management for surface and underground mining and civil operations. George retired in 2019 as Vice President for Project Development at Hecla Mining. Prior to joining Hecla Mining, George founded and operated Triple Constraint Solutions, a project management services company successfully serving the mining industry. George has safely completed critically important underground and surface mining projects under budget and ahead of schedule on five continents using best practices from industry and the DOE.

Ms. Kate Gregory
Integration Manager
Kate leads development of multifaceted infrastructure recapitalization programs for DOE’s Fermilab. She is responsible for laboratory integration management, schedule and budget performance. She has managed multi-billion dollar annual budgets and has achieved annual fiscal targets. As Chief of Civil Engineers and Commander in the U.S. Navy, Kate led development, integration, and implementation of multiple 3-5 year strategic infrastructure plans to align a 19,000 person, globally-dispersed organization.

Mr. Vince Gomes
Mining/Underground Operations Manager
Vince brings 30 years of relevant experience. He currently leads mining/underground construction to support expansion of experiments critical to the Nevada National Security Site U1a missions. Vince coordinates 200 construction and laboratory personnel. He is also responsible for the coordination of underground infrastructure support and safety. Vince received a Performance Award for an 18-month special assignment supporting WIPP recovery as Acting Project Engineering Manager.

Mr. Stacey Alderson
Environment, Safety & Health Manager
Stacey has 25 years of experience leading Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) and nuclear safety programs at DOE facilities. He currently manages the ES&H program for DOE's U1a project at the Nevada National Security Site, with up to 200 personnel underground and is responsible for U and P tunnels underground ES&H. Stacey leads 140-person ES&H staff, including 13 managers, nine functional organizations and two occupational medicine clinics. In addition, he led the ES&H program that reduced recordable injuries by 75% over 22 months, resulting in DOE Voluntary Protection Program's Star of Excellence award.
